Girl Scout Silver Award PROJECT Checklist

These guidelines have been developed to help Leaders and Consultants guide girls in the successful completion of the requirements for the Girl Scout Silver Award.

Prerequisites:

____    Have three interest project patches been earned?

____    Did the girl complete the "From Dreams to Reality" patch?

____    Did the girl complete the Cadette Girl Scout Leadership award or the Leadership                                         Interest Project patch?

____    Did the girl complete the Cadette Girl Scout Challenge?

____    Have the above requirements been completed prior to beginning any work on the
            Girl Scout Silver Award project?


____    Have all these requirements been completed while the girl was a registered Cadette
            Girl Scout?

Identifying a Girl Scout Silver Award Project:

____    1.  What are the girl’s values?

____    2.  What are the girl’s skills/talents?

____    3.  What are the girl’s interests and experiences?

____    4.  How can the girl use these strengths to benefit her community?

____    5.  Who is working on the project?  helping/guiding?  working with the girl?

____    6.  If working with a group, is each girl’s individual role clearly defined, and in line                                  with her personal skills and interests?

____    7.  Will the project cover the time requirements?  30 hours minimum of planning and                               execution, 7 - 10 hours of actual implementation.

____    8.  If working with a group, are jobs divided up so everyone can meet the time                                  requirements?

____    9.  Who benefits from the project?

____   10. Is there some aspect of community service outside of Girl Scouting?

____   11. What is the budget for the project?  Remember Safety-Wise guidelines for money                             earning.

____   12. Did the girl check Safety-Wise activity checklists for do’s and don’ts?

____   13. If the Girl Scout Silver Award Project is an event, is an adult who has taken event                            director training working with the girl throughout the project?  This is a must.

Evaluation:

____    Was the plan carried out?

____    Did it involve a minimum of 30 hours, 7-10 of which was spent in actual
            implementation?

____    What was successful about the project?

____    What needed improvement?

____    What were the areas of growth for the girl?  This step should help the girl see what she has gained from all her hard work on the Girl Scout Silver Award.


Girl Scout Silver Award Report:

____    Will someone who does not know the girl understand what she wanted to accomplish?

____    Will they understand why the girl chose this project?

____    Will they understand how the girl met her intended goals?

____    Did the girl check the report for spelling and grammatical errors?

____    Has the form been completed correctly with attention to neatness & legibility? 

            Incomplete forms will be returned.

____    Does the girl have all the necessary signatures?

____    Did the girl attach the requested forms?  Girl Biographical Profile and

            Cadette/Senior Girl Scout Time Log for the Silver Award Project.

When all of these requirements have been completed, the Cadette Girl Scout and her leader or consultant must review her work.  Their mutual decision, agreeing that the girl has satisfactorily completed all requirements, confirms that the girl has earned the Girl Scout Silver Award.
