I'm Your American Flag

Written By Kelli Cajigas

I'm a symbol to many.

Nicknames, I have a few...

Grand Ol' Flag, Old Glory,

the Red, White and Blue

My red stripes remind us

of blood that was spilt,

protecting this country,

our forefathers built.

My white stripes mean honor,

and spirit and grace;

for which we should strive

with the whole human race.

Brilliant white stars

on a field of bright blue--

one for each state

that has sworn to be true.

Proudly I've flown

and given my best,

 but now comes the time

I finally must rest.

For my colors are faded,

 I'm tattered and torn;

and it's honor you'll show

when you place me to burn.

Of my ashes I ask

that you each take a part--

the better to help

hold this night in your heart.
