New Floor Hours for Annual Convention - This years convention in San Antonio, TX has been restructured to accommodate new floor hours, so as to promote distributor presence on the floor.
Remember: Reservation cut-off date is September 14, 1995 !
Note for committee chairs - There will be a meeting of the Strategic Planning Committee at 10am, the day of the golf-outing (Sept 15). This consists of the chairs to each of the 12 committees created at the last meeting. If you head a committee, please be sure to attend, or ask another committee member to sit in your place.
Program Ideas Welcome ! - The Strategic Planning Committee is asking for your ideas for educational and informative programs for the up-coming meetings. Please contact any member with results from your brainstorming efforts.
Standardized Cover Sheets - Our "Joint Metal & Hardware" & "Joint Wood Door & Hardware" committees are in the process of designing standard cover sheets for submittals. If you have any input or requests, please contact any of the members of these committees. With any luck, we will have drafts to propose for the October meeting.
October is 'Annual Meeting' - Attendance is strongly encouraged at the October meeting. According to the by-laws this is to be considered the 'Annual Meeting' . In the future, it may also become the election meeting. If you only make one meeting a year, make this the one !
Membership Drive is On - The Membership Committee is hard at work drawing in new members. If you know of someone who might be interested, let a committee member know about it. Our chapter could win an additional DHI scholarship for the 'most new members'. Let's get to work on it !
Logo Contest - WIN $50 !!! - The Empire State Chapter is looking for entries in a 'Chapter Logo Contest'. The creator of the winning logo gets $50. Entries should represent New York State, incorporate the national DHI logo and also integrate the words "Empire State Chapter". Keep in mind, the logos must be able to be easily reproduced, enlarged & shrunk. It is the intent to use this logo on all DHI correspondence, and would also appear on the proposed cover sheets etc..
Internet - "Here We Come !!!" - It is the intent of the Newsletter Committee to publish an electronic version of our new newsletter in cyber-space. A local service provider is granting free space for 'Home-Pages' to non-profit organizations. If you subscribe to any on-line service, look for it in the next few weeks. If you have any input for this 'cutting-edge' expedition please contact a committee member.
Letter From the President... " Coming out of the closet " - One of the best kept secrets of the construction industry is about to be exposed ! The truth is going to be seen in the naked light of day, laid bare, for all to see. The lid is coming off, the cat is out of the bag, and so on.(Have I gone too far yet ?)
The Empire State Chapter of DHI is about to tell the construction industry what we do for them and just how important our role is, in the overall scheme of the building.
In the future, you may no longer have to struggle to find the words to describe what you do for a living ( to everyone outside of our small part of the industry ). The architects knowledge of doors and hardware will be expanded beyond the point of just "knowing there has to be some of those in a building ". The contractors will learn that price is not the only consideration in selecting a supplier. The general public will find out that, we are the folks that assure their safety, security, access and comfort, every time they enter a public building.
The genuine enthusiasm shown at the last meeting by those of you who offered your various talents to be put to use for the common good of our chapter, was nothing short of "terrific". Thank you all. I very much look forward to working with you to make our vision of our chapter come true. Now let's "get to it".
